When working with lists and reports, you sometimes have repetitive data which you want to enter again and again. While you have the excel autocomplete function but if you have similar tellers at the beginning of the data, the autocomplete wont function properly. A very good shortcut for this would be the ctrl+down arrow. It is an easy means to speed through repetitive data entry within a column. Just one thing to remember, this shortcut does not work with numbered lists and here you need to type the entire number. Excel keyboard shortcuts generally start with by pressing the “Alt” key. So, once you press the “Alt” key, you will see a shortcut or in fact an alphabet for each tab in the ribbon. Like F is for File, H is for Home, N for insert and so on. In the old excel interface, I mean 2003, you can find an underline under the letter in the menu which denotes the short key. When you press the short key, the ribbon opens up and all the commands in the ribbon appear with the next level of short key. If you use some commands very prominently, I would recommend that do not use the mouse to navigate to the command but use the short key. It will make a lot of difference in the way you work in excel and the efficiency as well. I would like to share an important tip…if you want to be fast with excel, try to avoid using the mouse as much as you can. We will soon be speaking about keyboard shortcuts and how to go to the individual menu’s etc later and there you can see how using the keyboard increases your speed. The main components of the excel user interface are the quick access toolbar, ribbon, formula bar, the worksheet area and the status bar. Let’s look at each one of them individually.
